Triplex Penthouse Renovation

New York, NY

This project consisted of renovating a triplex penthouse in a turn of the century limestone mansion on Riverside Drive.

In addition to a general renovation the focus of this project was to house and display the owner's art and objects collections. The existing three-story atrium was redesigned to accommodate a collection of large, French, Art Nouveau posters. The fireplace was also redesigned using white marble, mild steel and lead rosettes, in a manner reminiscent of the historic exterior, and in scale with the large open space. Theater lighting, on a programmable dimmer system, provides lighting for the posters, dramatic variety in intensity and mood, and a playful but strong ordering element for this central space.

The Master bedroom, guest room, library and gallery open to the central atrium. Through lighting and color selection these rooms add variety and depth to the space, especially at night. Custom woodwork in these secondary rooms, including Birdseye maple cabinetry with ebonized wood accents in the library, houses collections
